Nicky - Facility Dog

As part of its Canine in the Courts Initiative, Monroe County Courthouse has a Facility Dog, Nicholas or Nicky.

Nicky is a lab/golden retriever mix who has been professionally trained to work mainly with children during legal proceedings, providing quiet companionship. Nicky is also able to provide structured distractions for children, playing Tic Tac Toe or cards with them while they wait for their turn to participate in the proceeding. Nicky was specially chosen as a Facility Dog because of his calm demeanor and ability to work in high-stress situations. When Nicky is “off-duty” he goes home with his primary handler.

Funding for the Canine in the Courts Initiative is provided by Monroe County Bar Foundation.

To request Nicky for a proceeding, please complete and submit a Facility Dog Request Form.  Forms must supply all requested information. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for the Court to review/process your request. Confirmation of Nicky’s availability will be made by his handler via email.
